One of the subjects that have caused a lot of controversy in the church from time immemorial is the concept of ministerial succession. What should be the basic principles underlying how succession occurs in the ministerial assignment.
WiGRadio had this interesting discussion in a program tagged Kingdom Mandate with cleric Reverend Evans Adetokunbo Emmanuel, who is the vision bearer at Grace Missions Intl, a non-denominational Christian Ministry saddled with the responsibility of equipping Ministers of the gospel.
According to Rev. Toks (as he is popularly called), many of the people who are talking about succession in ministry are only concerned about the organization including the edifice and the money gained over time in ministry. Ministry however is not about buildings, structures, or organizations. You cannot transfer the calling to anyone. Everyone has their calling to fulfill and would be accountable to God for all that they do. everyone also needs to complete their calling and so the concept of ministerial succession is not the way we perceive it.
Ministerial succession is therefore all about committing the ministry of the word to those God has brought to us to be disciples of Christ. This is entirely different from the political system we practice in ministry where we want to do things our way rather than in God’s way.
These are some of the things shared on Kingdom Mandate live on WiGRadio on Thursday 16th July 2020. Other insights shared include the concept of handing over a ministry to one’s children. You can listen to the audio discussion by clicking here.
